Protection of the local population of the municipalities of Petrich and Strumica from natural and man-made disasters

Short description of the project

Within the framework of this project, specialized equipment was delivered – a modular system for response to crisis situations with a “Flood” module and a “Forest Fire” module for both project partners. This equipment helped to adapt and mitigate the consequences of climate change and protect the local population of the municipality of Petrich and the municipality of Strumica from floods and fires.

The equipment is an adequate means of combating disasters for the volunteer formations of the two municipalities – 21 from Petrich and 10 from Strumica. Both volunteer formations were trained within the framework of the project on how to use the new equipment and participated in the exchange of experiences and good practices in the field of risk prevention and protection of the local population in crisis situations, in order to increase their capacity in the relevant area. With the development of a textbook, part of the project activities and its presentation among students in schools, awareness was raised among young people about climate change and its consequences, as well as about the possibilities for their response in crisis situations.
