In the recent period, the attacks are more frequent, which puts into question the health and safety of people, especially children. The fear is frequent, people cannot walk calmly in the streets or parks because they are in constant fear of attacking from pack of homeless dogs walking in the streets, with uncontrolled barking and aggressive behavior to passers-by.
Construction of two shelters for homeless animals
Short description of the project
We are witnessing a number of attacks and problems that citizens have with homeless dogs throughout the region. In the recent period, the attacks are more frequent, which puts into question the health and safety of people, especially children. The fear is frequent, people cannot walk calmly in the streets or parks because they are in constant fear of attacking from pack of homeless dogs walking in the streets, with uncontrolled barking and aggressive behavior to passers-by.
As a result of that, the Mayors of the South-East planning region, as the first priority of the region for 2018, agreed to be the construction of two shelters for homeless animals in the Municipalities of Strumica and Gevgelija, making these shelters to take care for the dogs from the whole region.
This project will allow newly built shelters to provide elementary protection of animals facing unfavorable weather conditions and ensure their effective sheltering. According to the legal obligation, the capture of stray dogs will be carried out by qualified persons in a way that will not cause unnecessary pain or suffering. The shelter will provide appropriate measures and personnel in order to effectively protect of animals, regular feeding and treatment of animals. This project will permanently solve the problem with the stray dogs throughout the region.
Through the construction of the two shelters and purchasing a suitable vehicle with a trailer for transport, one of the obligations and the biggest problems currently existing by the Municipalities in the region will be resolved. In these shelters, homeless animals from all over the region will be carried out and protected, while at the same time the Municipalities in the region will have benefits and economic savings throughout the process.

Results
- Constructed two shelters ( one in Strumica and one in Gevgelija) with 80 cages in both shelters;
- Increased citizens safety from the South-East planning region in relation to the attacks from the homeless animals;
- Purchased transport vehicles and trailers for both shelters;
- Appropriate measures undertaken and personnel engaged for the propose of efficient animal protection, regular feeding and treatment of animals;
- A permanent solution provided against the problem of homeless animals throughout the region.
