“ESTABLISHMENT OF REGIONAL CENTRE FOR CERTIFICATION IN THE SOUTH-EAST PLANNING REGION

In the South-East Planning Region agricultural and food sector is a leading industry, and in the total agriculture in the country the region is first and most important in vegetable production and second in importance in tobacco production and viticulture.

In the absence of certification bodies for products in agri-food sector ,business firms that are mostly export-oriented are exposed to large expenses in engaging of foreign accredited certification bodies issuing the required certificates.

The establishment of the Centre for certification of agricultural and food products and with the start of a certification body will allow for manufacturers of agri-food products to quickly adapt to the criteria and conditions applied in agri-complex in EU Member States, thus will improve the economic situation and quality of life of the people who directly or indirectly depend on the development of agri-food sector.

Objectives of the project:

• Improvement of the conditions for obtaining international certificates for the agricultural and food products from the region;
• Increasing of their competitiveness of the international market.
