“THINK COMPOSTING – Dedication to the organic full circle”

Short description of the project

The cross border region of Macedonia-Bulgaria faces significant problems with waste and garbage. Few thought that the waste could be used, but there is a way which is called composting. The license for composting belongs to environment. Composting would be a great boon to the soil in this region thus processed garbage; it turns into organic and makes it useful for our agriculture.

Composting contributes to:
– Decrease soil erosion by enhancing soil structure;
– Return a diverse number of nutrients to soil;
– Reduce watering needs by improving water retention in the soil;
– Suppress plant diseases.

This project aims to develop human knowledge about the importance of the environment by means of composting. A collaboration partners will use different methods such as press conferences, informing the public through videos, brochures, advertisements etc. Also 400 composters are planned to be distributed in all 10 Municipalities in the South-East planning region.

Objectives of the project:

  • Implementing promotional activities for the benefits of composting;
  • Increasing the awareness for protecting the environment;
  • To intensify cross border cooperation between the people and institutions of the region;
  • Stimulate joint cooperation to address the challenges in the region regarding the abundance of organic waste in the cross border region through exploiting the potentials of composting;
  • Turning the organic waste into useful organic composts.

Results

  • Granting 400 free composters for those who need it most, which will reduce the cost of domestic budget paid for fertilizer and introduce the other people to the benefits of composting;
  • Raising awareness among citizens through promotional videos about the project and composting, promoting the benefits of composting;
  • Familiarize citizens about composting and composting process through well-designed brochures, electronic version of the brochures will be published on the project web site and the social network pages;
  • Studies about “Analysis of the composting potentials in the cross-border region” The studies will offer information about the composting as well as the utilization of the benefits of composting;
  • Successful press conferences with all the participants;
  • At least 10 successful info days in the municipalities from the cross border region with useful information for the project;
  • Successful training and workshop with representatives from the municipalities. The goal of the training will be to introduce Composting and the Composting process to the responsible people.
