The cross border region of Macedonia-Bulgaria faces significant problems with waste and garbage. Few thought that the waste could be used, but there is a way which is called composting. The license for composting belongs to environment. Composting would be a great boon to the soil in this region thus processed garbage; it turns into organic and makes it useful for our agriculture.
Composting contributes to:
– Decrease soil erosion by enhancing soil structure;
– Return a diverse number of nutrients to soil;
– Reduce watering needs by improving water retention in the soil;
– Suppress plant diseases.
This project aims to develop human knowledge about the importance of the environment by means of composting. A collaboration partners will use different methods such as press conferences, informing the public through videos, brochures, advertisements etc. Also 400 composters are planned to be distributed in all 10 Municipalities in the South-East planning region.
Objectives of the project:
- Implementing promotional activities for the benefits of composting;
- Increasing the awareness for protecting the environment;
- To intensify cross border cooperation between the people and institutions of the region;
- Stimulate joint cooperation to address the challenges in the region regarding the abundance of organic waste in the cross border region through exploiting the potentials of composting;
- Turning the organic waste into useful organic composts.
