Towards a Heart-Safe Cross-Border Area – HEART SAVE REGION

Short description of the project

The project “Towards a Heart-Safe Cross-Border Area” aims to procure new equipment for emergency medical care in the cross-border region between Greece and North Macedonia. By purchasing new ambulances, defibrillators, ECG devices and training for healthcare professionals and citizens, a faster and more efficient response to heart attacks and other emergencies will be enabled.

The main focus of the project is to strengthen the healthcare system and improve the preparedness of communities in the cross-border region between Greece and North Macedonia to deal with heart attacks and health emergencies.

The key objectives are:

  • improving emergency medical care capacities through the procurement of new equipment, defibrillators, ECG devices and ambulances,
  • training healthcare professionals and citizens in basic and advanced life support (BLS, ILS, ALS),
  • increasing the awareness and preparedness of the population to deal with health crises.

The Center for Development of the Southeast Planning Region plays a key role in the implementation of activities in North Macedonia. The Center is responsible for the procurement of four ambulances, ECG devices and defibrillators for the four health centers in the region, as well as for the coordination of training and promotional activities. With its participation, the Center will contribute to improving access to primary health care and strengthening the capacities of local communities.

Results

The project “Towards a Heart-Safe Cross-Border Area” will strengthen the health system and the preparedness of local communities in the Southeast region to deal with heart attacks and other emergencies. With the procurement of four ambulances, defibrillators and ECG devices, health centers will be better equipped for quick and efficient interventions, and defibrillators will be installed at the three border crossings in the Southeast region, thus ensuring emergency assistance for both travelers and employees at these locations. Health workers will receive training in basic and advanced life support (BLS, ILS, ALS), thus increasing their ability to deal with emergency situations. In all ten municipalities of the region, trainings on first aid in case of heart attacks will be organized for municipal employees, other institutions and the local population, thus increasing the awareness and readiness of citizens to react in critical moments. The project will also contribute to improving cross-border cooperation with Greece, enabling faster and more efficient coordination in dealing with emergencies and strengthening the security and trust of communities in their own rapid response capacities.
