Zero-waste, energy-efficient farming communities in the cross-border area
Short description of the project
The ZEFFIROS project aims to implement the first, unique, pilot installations for energy production from biogas in both program areas, designed and managed through inter-municipal cooperation and based on cross-border exchange of knowledge and good practices.
Specifically, the “Zefiros” project will demonstrate a model of sustainable bio-waste management through biogas and compost production, in those environments where agricultural activity is developed. The implementation of pilot installations for biogas production will indirectly intervene in the segments of environmental protection, better air quality, increased food security, more efficient use of available resources and renewable energy sources. The increased use of bio-waste as a resource for energy production, at the expense of the use of fossil fuels, will lead to a cleaner and healthier environment.
The specific objectives of ZEFFIROS are:
– demonstrate sustainable deployment and operation of municipal biogas installations
– raise awareness and change behavioral patterns and pilot home composting initiative
– build capacity for bio-waste management and circular economy
– provide an exploitation strategy and plan for further municipal investments in biogas waste management solutions.
