About the Programme
The Interreg VI-A IPA Programme “Greece - North Macedonia 2021 – 2027” is a cross-border cooperation Programme co-financed by the European Union under the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA III). This joint Programme empowers public authorities, private non-profit organizations and other institutions to work together on common challenges and problems, seeking for smarter solutions in the areas of Thessaloniki, Kilkis, Pella, Serres, Florina, Kozani and Vardar, Pelagonia, Southeast and Southwest. The strategy statement of the Programme is “to enhance territorial cohesion by improving living standards and employment opportunities holding respect to the environment and by using the natural resources for tourism”. The total budget of the Programme for the period 2021-2027 is 33.3 million €.
About the project
The “Green for Good” project is an initiative for the transition to a low-carbon economy and sustainable development in the cross-border region between North Macedonia and Greece. The main goal is to promote the circular economy and efficient resource management through investments in renewable energy sources, development of electric vehicle infrastructure and creation of urban green spaces.
Project Objectives:
- Reduce pollution and improve air quality through clean energy and sustainable transport solutions.
- Enhance sustainable mobility with electric vehicle charging infrastructure and an e-minibus for public transport.
- Develop green urban infrastructure (pilot gardens) that encourages eco-friendly lifestyles and environmental education.
- Establish a Green Education Centre/Living Lab as a hub for knowledge-sharing, capacity building, and innovation.
- Strengthen cross-border cooperation through joint initiatives, events, and governance structures.
Green for Good (G4G) project introduces a set of integrated activities that combine green infrastructure, renewable energy, sustainable mobility, and community engagement. By implementing practical pilot actions and knowledge-sharing initiatives, the project aims to demonstrate innovative approaches to sustainable development while strengthening cross-border cooperation and creating long-term benefits for citizens, local authorities, and businesses. The activities in the G4G project include:
- Installation of 8 electric vehicle charging stations across borders — 6 in the South-East region in North Macedonia (Strumica, Radovish, Novo Selo, Valandovo, Dojran and Gevgelija), 1 in Thessaloniki, and 1 in Thermi, Greece.
- Providing 1 electric mini-bus for public transport for Thermi.
- Installation of 4 photovoltaic (PV) systems (40 kW each) in the Municipalities of Gevgelija, Radovish, Bosilovo, and Konche.
- Installation of 1 combined PV system (40 kW) with a Building Energy Management System (BEMS) in a public building in Thermi.
- Organization of at least 6 cross-border renewable energy events.
- Developing 2 pilot urban gardens (Radovish & Thermi).
- Creation of a Green Education Centre in Gevgelija, which will serve as a center for training and workshops to raise awareness about sustainable development, energy efficiency and circular economy and a G4G Living Lab in Thessaloniki as a hub for training and innovation.
- Form a Cross-Border Management Committee to ensure sustainability and long-term cooperation.

Project Partners
Centre for development of the South-East planning region - Lead Partner
The Centre for development of the South-East planning region is one of the eight regional development centres in North Macedonia, established in December 2008 under the Law for Balanced Regional Development. It was founded by the ten Municipalities in the South-East region: Bogdanci, Bosilovo, Valandovo, Vasilevo, Gevgeliјa, Doјran, Konche, Novo Selo, Radovish and Strumica.
The main goal and mission of the Centre is to reduce regional disparities in economic development, agricultural development, infrastructure, employment and tourism and protection of the environment that would lead to sustainable and balanced regional development.
Part of the activities of the CDSEPR are preparing a draft program for the development of the region, the draft action plan for the implementation of this program, preparing proposals for development of the region, coordination of activities for implementation of the programme, providing professional and technical assistance in the preparation of development programs of the local government units, encourages inter-municipal cooperation, implementation of projects financed by EU funds and other national and international financial resources, etc.
CISS International Cooperation South-South Branch Skopje - Project Partner 2
Cooperazione Internazionale Sud Sud is a no profit association founded in 1985. Since 1989 it has received recognition as non governmental organization (NGO) qualified to promote and to realize cooperation projects in Developing Countries. CISS is a NGO of solidarity and international co-operation, but in consideration of his presence in an European territory characterised by strong and specific development problems, it also acts with local interventions and projects.
In the Republic of North Macedonia, CISS is registered association since 1999. In 2012 is preregistered according the new law for the associations.
The three main intervention areas of the NGO are:
a) Projects and activities of solidarity and international co-operation
b) Projects and activities of education, formation and awareness
c) Projects and interventions of development to local level
Centre for research and Technology Hellas - Project Partner 3
The Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH) is one of Greece’s leading research institutions, established in 2000 as a non-profit legal entity. CERTH brings together over 1,500 scientists and engineers across five specialized institutes, including the Hellenic Institute of Transport (HIT).
Based in Thessaloniki, HIT conducts applied research in transport systems, logistics, multimodal mobility, infrastructure planning, vehicle technology, and transport-related environmental and economic impacts.
HIT participates in national and European research projects and provides technical expertise, data analytics, modelling, and policy support. In this project, HIT contributes its experience in smart mobility, transport innovation, and knowledge transfer to support project implementation and ensure high-quality results.
Municipality of Thermi - Project Partner 4
Municipality of Thermi is located in the Thessaloniki regional unit of Central Macedonia, Greece, approximately 15 km southeast of Thessaloniki city. Following the 2011 local government reform, it encompasses several municipal units, including Thermi, Mikra and Vasilika.
The Municipality plays a key role in supporting regional development, providing a wide range of public services and promoting sustainable growth in residential, industrial and service sectors.
As a project partner, the Municipality of Thermi contributes its expertise in local governance, citizen engagement, regional planning and community development. Its participation ensures that project outcomes are grounded in local realities and aligned with citizens' needs, supporting effective implementation and long-term impact.
