On 22.02.2020, the regulation of the riverbed of the river Sushica in Radovish has started through the project “Joint actions for prevention and reduction of the consequences of disasters in the municipalities of Sandanski and Radovish” funded by the EU, through INTERREG – IPA Cross-Border Cooperation Programme between Bulgaria and Republic of North Macedonia which is implemented through the Centre for development of the South – East planning region in partnership with the Municipality of Radovish and the Municipality of Sandanski from Bulgaria, as a Lead Partner in the project.
With this project for cross-border cooperation, one of the main activities is the arrangement of the riverbed of the river Sushica in Radovish, with the length of 624 meters, which will be reconstructed the most critical part of the river which causes big problems when the water comes.
Within the implementation it is planned cleaning of the riverbed, setting up cascading thresholds, a quay wall, arranging the bottom, building stairs and ramps in order to create access to the river and reduce the negative consequences of the floods and raise public awareness among the population by involving the youngest through implement outdoor activities for tree planting and afforestation of the river basin.
The construction works of the river Sushica is in the amount of 324,206.88 EUR, and will be performed by the company JOVI KOMPANI from Mokrino. The main goal of the project is prevention and mitigation of consequences of natural and man caused disasters of cross-border dimension and impact. The total value of the project is 587,931.97 EUR, of which co-financing from the municipality of Radovis is worth 191,630.00 EUR, and the remaining funds are provided by the EU and the Ministry of Local Self-Government.
